Today was my DNA collection day. I got up at 8 to print off 70 copies of consent forms & survey, and now I can safely say that the person who showed up midway through my enormous print que, and the printer in Great Oaks hall both hate me a lot. After my printing adventure, I ran around semi freaked out because even after spending 2 hours on a Sunday night in Milliken trying to find the test tubes (among other things ) I needed, I still couldn't find them. All I have to say is thank goodness for Dr. Baker, because she is wonderful and helps me find things. And also apologies to Stephyn and Ben who had walked in on me singing at the top of my lungs in the lab at different times.
Anyway, Got everything set up in Acorn, everything paper clipped, stapled and as prepped as I could before 11.
From 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM I collected about 42 samples for my study. I had originally thought that I would collect 200 samples for my study, but looking now on the work ahead of me, 50 is a good number. For tomorrow, I made other appointments to collect data from people who couldn't make it today, and I will continue my swabbing adventure.
Looking to what needs to be accomplished for my study, I'm really nervous about the things yet to come. All the easy stuff is over. After this it's just lab work (a lot of it), data entry and paper writing. It's me, myself and I in a lab, with minimal supervision and it's a little daunting. But, I'm sure that I can do it. I just need a little more faith in my ability (and also a little more acquaintance with a lab setting).
Tomorrow: More swabbing! And probably performing a test run on my own DNA.
